Hi All
I am relatively new to the world of defenders so would like some advice from those in the know!
We have had our 2003 TD5 defender for just over a year, shortly after getting it the head gasket went and we had it replaced and the head tested, which was fine, so reused.
About a week ago I checked the coolant level and it was low, so put some more in. Then today whilst driving from Exeter to Surrey all of a sudden the engine heat gauge went to max and the engine went into idle. I immediately pulled over and opened the lid and all of the coolant had exploded out all over the engine out of the cap. We put some more in just to check it wasn't a hose come loose and it wasn't.
We have been recovered as we were still 100 miles from home so didn't want to risk damaging the engine.
My first thought was head gasket fail again, but it seems very sudden with no other signs before hand.
My second thought was thermostat fail or water pump fail.
Any advice would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks
