Converting Standard 110 to Heavy Duty - HOW?

I need some expert and friendly advice on Defender payload allowances and possible ways to convert or upgrade a vehicle from Standard to Heavy Duty configuration.

According to Land Rover, the Defender 110 Station Wagon has a maximum payload allowance of 1009Kg – there being no Heavy Duty option available. Considering that the [Heavy Duty] Hard Top is available with a maximum 1494Kg payload allowance, what components are different on the standard and Heavy Duty 110 Defender models mentioned above?

Also how easy is it to upgrade the station wagon – adding maybe another 400Kg to the payload allowance. Are there authorised companies (UK) who can do the work and if so, how much should I expect to pay? In addition, would the work undertaken invalidate the manufacturer’s original warranty?

The quoted payload takes account of the weight of any potential passengers in a station wagon, therefore allowing less for cargo. Don't think there's any difference in the springs department. You can buy so called heavy duty springs as an after market item dunno if they're any different though.

they should be. we run helper springs on our 110 HT's at work. I dont think you can increase the load as ALL components will have been tested/taken into account not just the axles, springs, wheels etc. Even if you do get it to take more, try convincing the cops when they take you to a weighbridge and bust you for being 100kg over what LR "says" it can take.

If you want load capacity, buy a 130. whats the payload of a 110HiCap?

My camel has helper sprigs on its rear it dont half buck round though on lanes when unloaded it also has 130 rims on it so you may have to think its cheaper to buy a trailer

ffs, this is a landrover forum you know! It's like farmer's weekly for the middle east round here!

what I don't get is how you get off the camel with springs on the back..... surely it makes it harder for the beast to kneel???
