I am going to convert my 'arm-strong' 12J 2.5 NA to power steering, if possible. It is a bit of a bear to maneuver at low speeds in the woods and I am not getting any younger. I know that some of you purists will scoff, so scoff away!

The truck is a LHD 1995 ex MOD with am MA serial number.

I have tried to source a used PAS system from a Discovery, but there is not much to pick from on this side of the Atlantic and their condition is sketchy at best.

If anyone has photos of a 12J engine with power steering, I would appreciate seeing them.

From the information that I have been able to get on this forum, I will need a NTC9070 pump and the NTC1581NOR steering box (this is Paddock's number).

I have the bracket to hold the pump to the side of the engine. Also I have found the part number for the pulley for the pump - ETC5783.

What other bits will I need? Any parts numbers would be appreciated. In particular puctures or part numbers for the three hoses that I will need.

I can see the parts on this page for the hoses and reservoir, but the page does not give part numbers.

Thanks,

Colin

Like this? Is there also a tensioner for the PAS belt?
Thanks,
C

yes the 3 pullley which has the 3rd for aircon which is never used is the usual option if buying new, early pas pump brackets had a tensioner, the later tension is gained by moving pump on slotted holes in the bracket

Ive retro fit PAS on mine. Will try to get you a pic when I can get under the bonnet. first problem I had was the three bolt steering box the previous owner had put (but hadnt put in a PAS pump) It was too twitchy when the pas pump was fitted really dangerous on the road. Replaced it with the four bolt one you mentioned above. Dont know if the tensioner is part of the bracket as I got mine second hand but the belt tensioner is on the bracket its not spring loaded so you have to lever it out and tighten the retaining bolt. Finally had to braise some pipe together to get the right connections on the ends of the hoses as I couldnt find ones with the right connections each end. The feed banjo on mine has always leaked, it was second hand and I Found that the previous owner had tightened the banjo bolt so much it had distorted the seat will have to grind it back sometime to get a true seat for the copper washers

Thanks, Dickey le Frog.
I would appreciate that.
Colin

Thanks, Dickey. My rig is LHD so I imagine that my setup will be mirrored. The reservoir will end up where it ends up.
Cheers,
Colin
