Bit new to this so sorry if it's not in the right category. 300tdi defender owner for a few weeks now still getting it ready to get up and running on the road and started looking at insurance, phoned up a couple from the landy mags and must say they was bloody expensive ranging from 700 to 1000 clean licence 25 years driving. Did the compare the market thingies and they come out around 200 average my no claims is on my commercial vehicle so I can't use this. I did like the look of budget as I experimented with modifications and it let me add on alloy wheels and non standard paint even though it is bog standard at present this will change. Does everyone use specialist insurance or is the run of the mill companies fine.
Can anyone recommend and security mods I can do that will make my vehicle less easy to steal.

Hi Tia,

Have you tried us for insurance at all? If you wanted to PM me I'd be happy to arrange a quotation for you.

Kind Regards
Jamie

Tbh, I would look into Adrian Flux. I did all the market searches for my D2 with all the off road mods and they came out at about £1200, where as the market searches were all about 17-1900, so a chunk saved. Just annoys me that my age is a factor in prices of insurance regardless of old men and women cutting me up on roundabouts :mad::mad:

Look at statistics, that is what insurance companys go by, also the fact that land rover are highly prized by thefts. What do you call old men and women:p

Anyone older than me!:rolleyes: haha, generally the people in their late 60 early 70's are the worst, indecisive at junctions and when they do go, they're softly stroking that clutch like it could break at any minute

Careful there........... I have no tickets or accident since 1972. Now the time between 1965 and 1970 well lets say I was hell of wheels, driving like a fool and thought I was superman.

One thing that winds me up about insurance, when I bought my Landy I already had a car, so they told me the years of accident free driving don't count on my second vehicle, start again from no bonus, OK.
When I renew i have to declare any and all accidents, so if I have an accident in the other car I am bound to declare, and presumably up my premium on the Landy.
So are the two only linked when the insurance can use it to get their hands in your pocket?

I always wonder about that.
I have three vehicles, two landrovers and a little car. I had to build up the no claims on the second and third policies despite having full protected discount on the first policy.
On the face of it there doesn't seem to be much more risk, I am the same driver that has the full no claims, and I cant drive two of them at once.

Thats another thing, I read that protected no claims is a bit of a con, If you have a policy and make a claim you keep the NCB the same but they up the premium by a big chunk so you lose. I have stopped paying for that now.

I'm insured with Esure and they mirrored my no claims when I bought the RR so effectively giving me 60% no claims bonus on both cars

I wondered about that too. Think its only a tenner, though, insurance is pretty cheap here, one of the better postcodes.

That is good but its not the norm, I called dozens of places and no one was interested, seems to be a pretty fair request if the insist on mirroring any hikes due to claims.
