i am trying to get me head round tyre sizes but cant work it out.i currently have 265/75/16 insa turbo special tracks.how does a 33/12.50/16 compare in size i think the insa is 31.5" tall but how do i compare the width between the two...help please

265/75 is approx 10.6" wide. 25mm=1inch.

265 is the width of the tire. take 75% of that number and double it then add the 16inches (for rim) to get overall height.

so you will gain a little height but alot of width. remember to half the height gain for height gain under Diffpan.

Personally i wouldnt go for 12.5" wide tyres. friend of mine had some 33x12.5's and then he got trouble with his PAS box. not sure if it was a direct link, but he went through 2.

Im running 255/85's (16) which are just over 33" (on a wolf rim) yet only 10.2" wide. suits me a treat and no problems with PAS to date.

cheers g..im after more diff clearance,so going to a 33 is gonna give me very little.will have to hold out for the 35 or 37 tyres then.i can get creepys in 35" for £525 for 4 but im not sure if me existing rim is wide enough will have to measure it i need a 10"rim for the creepys, but the 37" creepys are a calling but its all down to the wonga or lack of it

I was going to answer your thread on 37s but couldnt be bothered. i would stick to 35 or less. you will start to get problems with transmission over 35. I have spent a lot of time reading and on the D44 forum regarding this as a lot of the comp guys are in that tyre range. general consensus is that you put too much stress on components that are standard due to extra weight of the wheels/tyres and potential grip. half shafts, drive flanges, diffs, props, transfer boxes etc etc. may all need to be uprated. its gonna cost you big time.

i suggest you go over to the D44 site and trawl the pages for the 35 vs 37 argument. These guys are serious about their kit, so they know what their doing. ive seen a set of Irok 44" on a trayback 90! the bloke couldnt lift the wheels, they had to be forklifted on. tells you something about the stress that the components have to take. esp when you floor it from a standstill in a tuned V8... snap!

hope this helps.

ps, the creepy's look nice and maxxis are actually a very good make. used to use their mountain bike tires for racing downhill for years. a few years ago now though :D

what you got? modulars? i think your going to need a much bigger dish than what you have. i would sell yours as a set on wheels and just buy the creepy's on wheels. it will work out cheaper and easier.
