Confused by my VIN

Evening gents,
Isn't my vin supposed to start with an S and be 17 digits long? I haveView attachment 132408 checked out several Land Rover Vin decoder's and mine just doesn't seem to make sense.

What year is it? If I recall correctly, VIN numbers started in the 80s, before that they were chassis numbers, not VINs and I think they had a different layout. Somebody will, hopefully, be along to put us right. I can't find anything on my computer to help, sure I've got something somewhere...

Found chassis number in paperwork. Truck is in the middle of being shipped so I haven't been able to see it personally.
All adds up and was able to decode it.
1983 series 3 109. Strange that the title and associated paperwork state that it's a defender 110.

It might be a simple confusion; you know how many people nowadays erroneously call all Land Rovers "Defenders".

110 was released in 1983, so might be that
