Hiya
I went to fit a set of big end bearings today, nice shiny new RT1730 ones to a 2 1/4 3 bearing petrol engine, and found that the tag on the bearings was on the wrong size and they were very obviously too large. The Series II it is fitted with is from 1960 and it looks like it might be the original engine as Mr Haynes lists two crankshaft journal sizes of 53.9mm and 58.7mm. Measuring one of the bearing shells we had lying around indicates that it is around 54mm. As often happens with these things, most of the bearing shells were binned when the engine was taken apart as it appeared to be a standard 2 1/2. Anyway, my question is does anyone know the part number for the ones I need? Does anyone know a source for them at a reasonable price or better still have a new set they would be willing to sell or trade? Does anyone know if the particular bearings I am after are common with the earlier 2.0 litre engine?
Cheers
Andy
PS Does anyone need a set of standard RTC1730 big end shells? LOL
