Hi Guys and hope you had a great Christmas.
Am seeking some advice which I can't solve with my grey matter or Haynes manual.
All electrics temporarily failed in my Defender 90 (1994) this morning.
Wonder if I overloaded the system, but no fuses blown (in behind gear lever location) and the 2 60 amp and 1 30 amp fuse in the engine bay (left of the heater) are OK too.
Had the dash out to replace speedo bulbs. Had reassembled and was gradually turning everything on to check all instrument bulbs worked (lights, mainbeam, indicators, glow plug etc etc).
Went to turn ignition key and a single 'click' sound and then all power went dead - not even the side lights would power up.
Click sounded more like an electrical trip than a solonoid working (similar to that which you sometimes hear in turning a domestic consumer unit MCB on whilst things are plugged in waiting to draw power).
After about 20 seconds power returned to side lights. It happened again on then trying to start. Checked every fuse with a multimeter. Now back working, but as left me puzzled and nervous of a repeat performance.
From the wiring diagram I can't see any overload protection device which cuts all power to every system and then automatically resets after a short while.
Is there such a thing, or something else that I've missed checking.
Many thanks for any ideas.
