Common climate problems just unsure symptoms

Guys I have a normal P38 climate issue and have done some tests myself with strange outcome, can anyone tell me if this is blend motors like normal?

My ranger rover is a 2000 HSE with 67000 genuine miles. The book light is on the climate system, used to just come on now and then but now al the time! I have a range rover specialist who I trust but am not sure about what he is telling me. Apparently it's blend motors that are causing the problem but I thought they locked one way or the other, either hot of cold. On auto I can get hot and cold air through all my vents however I like which makes me think they are still working. I have tested the blower motors, the internal temp sensor and fan which are all working correctly. The distribution flaps also work perfectly along with the re circulation flaps. Couldn't test the solar sensor as yet. All fuses are fine and not blown. The air con is still running very cold and I had it gassed around 2 years ago! Could it still be blend motors causing the book light to come on. I was also told that all 3 needed changing at the same time however, I read that you can splice a single motor in, is that correct? I am based in Cambridgeshire and am being quoted around £650 in vat to do this job, anybody close to me that know a better or cheaper option if indeed these blend motors are at fault?
 
Diagnostic will tell you what's causing book symbol, maybe there's someone nearby there will help
 
Blend motors can be changed singly. If you can adjust the temperature on both sides and direct the air to all the different outlets, it's not blend motors IMO.
As Druim said, diagnostics are the way forward.
 
Took it back to the specialist today and it turns out it's the re circulation side of the left and right blend motors? That's what comes up on the diagnostic computer. Apparently it's the recirc motors that aren't opening and closing the flaps which is why the book symbol is present and can't be taken off. This doesn't bother me as the air con is working properly on any temp, obviously to fix this issue will mean new blend motors but at present theres no need to do it as it's not effecting anything I use. Could still do with a cheaper quote on doing them when they do eventually go wrong as they all do lmao!

Lmao yes but can you get to them? I have heard of people changing single motors but they don't seem to work for long when you splice the wires. Maybe the motors have to be all changed as if one goes the others won't be far off. When it gets worse ie no control over hot and cold I'll do them all at the same time, just wondered if there were any specialists on here that can do the job cheaper than the £650 I've been quoted?
 
Talking of about £150 for all three blend motors. Then labour £500 for that seems a lot.

Look at this (there are lots of guides on how to do it) spend a weekend enjoying yourself and save a fortune!!

How much trouble are the blower units to get to? Just read an forum post about rebuilding the motors instead of changing them out, they were saying that you can get to the recirc motors and open the box to see if the gear are stripped, check the flap aren't stuck. If they are stripped just buy used motors and replace the fear. In 5 vehicles that had this problem the brushes needed attention and the motors came back to life. This sound a lot easier than all this dismantling to change them all.

Never had them out to be honest. Its certainly glove box out and closure panel off from under steering wheel. Fans are under pollen filters at either side. This will give you some idea of where things are. The recirculation flap is inside the square opening and the flap motor is screwed to a right hand side with the wires coming down from it. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Range-Rov...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cd82db162 You can strip and repair all the blend motors if you can get other units to use parts from.

Thanks for that, I've had that blower motor out on my astra 888! If I could find a good land rover mechanic how long would you say it should take to remove those parts both sides? Is it as complicated as taking the dash out for the heater blend motors or is this a slightly easier job? I think my land rover specialist is of the opinion that if you are going to do them you may as well do them all and know you don't have to do it again later on

Is it as complicated as taking the dash out for the heater blend motors or is this a slightly easier job? I think my land rover specialist is of the opinion that if you are going to do them you may as well do them all and know you don't have to do it again later on

They can apparently be removed without taking the dash out. But it maybe a job of a fiddly nature where expletives maybe used to excess. :D
 
Blower motor on the passenger side is a PoP, 20 minutes to change tops.. however, a word of advice. check to make sure you have the glove box release installed correctly, check and check again.. before closing it. its a bitch to undo if you haven't seated it correctly and the box fails to open.

On the drivers side.. can't answer.. haven't had to change that one.
 
Lmao thanks guys, will look round for someone who knows how to do the job and has done it before, I often think it's a good idea to do these jobs myself until I get way into them, then everything changes for the worse!
