Commercial drivers window help?

My father in law just got a 00 freelander commercial. it's in pretty good nick but the drivers window didn't work. Didn't think anything major and bought new cables of Ebay . Trying to fit them on the other hand is almost impossible. Way too much metal in the way. Anybody got any cunning plans? Has to be a relatively easy way to do it. Thanks for any help.
