I've just bought a P38 and my intention is to upgrade my bumpers front and rear, I would like to have them colour code to match my body work.

I dont really know much about mods to cars etc and this is my first attempt and this sort of thing.

I was wondering can you have plastic bumpers sprayed to match the rest of the car, or do they need some special treatment prior to spraying?

I'm hoping to upgrade to a sports grill that've seen on ebay, does anyone know where I can buy new bumpers that may already be colour coded at a resonable price.

I've got he cash to spend but I dont want to silly, if its gonna cost silly money I'd be aswell buying a new L322 or something to that effect.

Hi, yes plastic bumpers can be painted, they will need lots of coats of primer and sanding before the base coat (colour) goes on, or the dimpled plastic will still show when the laquer is applied and they are finished.

But no real problem for a decent bodyshop.

I personally think colour coded on a P38 spolis them, the plastic works very well with the styling.

Same as the upgraded lights, grilles, and vents in the wings, they just look wrong. Just my opinion.

If you have just bought it, save your money for now, as I'm almost certain you will need to spend money on something that the car NEEDS sooner or later.

On a related topic though, any tips on renovating the plastic bumper? Mine has scratches and nicks and is kinda faded. I'm not keen on that shiny, tacky-looking silicone spray stuff.

You can buy a black polish that you apply with a cloth, rather than spray it on. I think Carplan do some.

you will probably be better buying a bumper from such as ebay or a scrap yard thats in good condition and re-spraying it to match your colour. its gonna cost around 100 quid to get it sprayed unless you know someone or can diy.

easier to buy a new one mate. for discolouration, i.e when a bumper goes grey, you can try a heat gun (paint stripper type) and heat the plastic to return it to original black colour!
