Cold start

Hello all new to this page the the 300tdi scene. Have recently picked up a 1997 300tdi with edc went to start it from cold this morning it fired first pop but shut off. Did this a couple of times before it started with a bit of throttle. If left for 10 mins or more it will do the same thing as a cold start. Previous owner has put a new lift pump in unsure if it's a quality one. My guess is Im loosing fuel pressure somewhere. Also can the fuel pump in tank have an effect on it. Any help will be much appreciated.

There will be some small pipe/tube between each injector. These may be slightly perished.
It allows air into the system which makes the start up harder.
