Cold heaters, Squirting water from header tank!?!

Evening all,

After a painstaking day of working on disco trying to find out what is wrong,
All that happens is i fill her up with water and bleed system then i drive for 10 mins and it spits all the water out from header tank,
Heaters are also cold!

Any help please!

read something like this in a mag it turned out to be the pressure relief valve in the header tank cap had fallen apart so the pump pressure just blows all the water out

You don't say what vehicle/year/engine it is, so only general comments can be made but it sounds like you might have an airlock, somewhere adjacent to the heater.

My TD5 Auto started to lose water over a couple of days. Had her pressure tested and Co2 tested - all fine. Replaced the header tank cap and promptly lost a litre of water in 176km. 2nd cap proved to be faulty so it was replaced again. since then no problems until I sold the truck.

Its a landrover discovery 1995 es 300tdi!
I dont mind if i have to replace head gasket i just dont want to replace it for no reason!

ok this is wierd. . . i have just replaced the header cap for a new one and all seems ok, bearing in mind i have only drove about 5 miles. . .

The only difference is the cooling system is pressureised?!? is that normal?

It couldnt be that simple!! Could it?!?!

Generally, cooling systems are designed to be pressurised to approx 13psi. By pressurising the system it increases the boiling temperature of the coolant keeping it liquid state for longer. Liquid cools your engine. Steam does nowt.
