Hi
Discovery 3 2007 tdv6. Fitted new bearings and front arms. All was well for a short while but now I start it up go down road and when I reach 30mph all dash lights come on and every code comes up. Clear then and it just does the same. Fitted new abs sensors and front driveshafts but no change. Battery seams ok. Any advice appreciated. steveeasy

hi @steveeasy

May i plse ask ,

did u replace the front lower or upper arms

when did u tighten the wishbone bolts up , whilst jacked up or on the ground and at what ride height was u on

Apologises for all the questions, lol

Ok,
did the rear hub bearings first. car drove fine no codes. then did nr side lower arm. did it while on jack. replaced driveshaft as I hit the old one. ive also replaced the sensor. now at 30mph HDC and steering sensor and some control box.

did the bolts up while it was on the jack. I think road height. front lower.

many thks , once again sorry for all the questions

so as u done the front lower did u get 4 x wheel alignment done,

when u done the bolts up on the jack did u jack the wheel up to normal ride height before finally tightening them plse

hope this is useful and more than happy to walk u through it if ur unsure

well its pointing me in the right direction but please tell me more. never thought the car was that sensative.

no probs , basically as the wishbones have been replaced there not in the same position they was before so the ride height and genome tey are out, there for the ECM gets the wrong message badk, therefore confusing it

so when u replace the front lowers or rear uppers u need to get a 4 x wheel alignment done, the Hunter system is very good, plus ensure the steering wheel is straight and ask them to check and reset ur steering wheel angle sensor if req

in normal ride height, from the centre of the wheel hub to the bottom of the wheel arch the following should measure

front, 465 mm, rear , 485mm

it’s also best to release air from out of ur front strut as ur jacking it up ,

so as you’ve replaced the front lower wishbone, u install the bolts and leave them slightly loose, u then jack up the wishbone so it measures 465mm , then u tighten the bolts, nuts up to the correct torque, otherwise the bushes twist and will wear out considerably quicker

it’s normally best to change wishbones on the same axle as a pair

hope that helps , any questions plse feel free to ask , plus don’t mind helping as u said please which is always appreciated

ur so welcome and ur be surprised of people that ask for help and never say plse or thks

Please ask away if ur unsure if something as there’s a few of us here that own D3/4

Indeed Plse let us know how u get on

No not yet. is that a ticking time bomb?
Thanks!!
Steveeasy

indeed I’m afraid they are , from 2007 the oil pump casings didn’t have the reinforcement web, so indeed best to get that changed as soon as u can, just the kind of news u wanted to hear , lol

Have u just got the D3 then please

Admittedly they do need looking after and can be frustrating at times but many things arnt too difficult

Nope. Its my sons. hes had it years. but it failed its test and I volunteered to fix it. he normally does though. Actually I found it fairly simple to work on with some good touches, like the rear upper arms, just lift out with the grooves cut out for the bolts..
Many Thanks

u was exceptionally lucky with the rear uppers as there usually basterwards, please don’t ask me how I know, lol

Did it just fail on the bearing and wishbone then plse , plus if if u don’t mind me adding getting some half decent diagnostics will save u a lot of money in the long run , hopefully as he’s owned it for a while the oil pump has been replaced when the belts were done

so as ur repairing it does that mean u get to pay the invoice as well, ;);)

pleasure mate and indeed Plse let us know how u get on

It failed on both rear hub bearings and both upper rear arms. propshaft centre bearing and the balljoint on the lower front. No i did not pay the invoices, garage wanted 1800 without parts to do all the work and I thought we should crack on with it. 4 months later !!.
