Something jogged my mind the other day after I had collected my 2003 TD5 from it's annual service and MOT.

I checked back over all of the MOT emission print outs and found that my Landy had never emitted more than 205gms CO2 at any of the test points.

I asked the tester how this compared with other Discos and he said that the worst he had ever seen was around 225gms.

So, where do the figures that the DVLA use to determine your tax bill come from?

Do they accept the manufacturers figures or do they test each one themselves?

Manufactures but they have officials there to make sure every thing is done correctly, and that the engine/vehicle has all the correct parts fitted ie exhaust, inlet manifold ect,
Its also done in a controlled enviroment.

It is different ways of measuring

The crooks at DVLA (the government) are using how much MASS of CO2 the car emits over some distance to raise your car-tax rate, whereas the MoT station is measuring the PROPORTION of CO2 and stuff in the exhaust gas.

It's all just a racket to take more money off motorists,
