I think that the clutch slave cylinder has pushed its way through the clutch
fork
on my Disco 200TDI. Is there anything that I should be aware of before I
remove the slave cylinder to confirm my suspisions?
I had a bad experience with a Rover gearbox on a TR7 before when the clip
holding the pushrod to the fork fell off (just after I had refitted the
gearbox), and
I don't really want to do the same again if my suspicion is wrong.

Also, about how many hours does it take to remove and refit the gearbox
(local
garage not, Land Rover specialist), as that is just too big a job for me.

Thanks,

Yes, the pushrod can fall out if the clip is broken if you're not careful
when pulling out the slave cylinder but usually the fork wears where it
pivots on the ball and you will need the fork (FTC2957), the release bearing
(FRC9568 or FTC5200), the pads on the other end of the arm (FRC5255 x 2) and
if you want a new clip it is (FRC3327) and all the lot is probably less than
£35. If you remove the slave cylinder you will be able to see the arm (fork)
pushed back right against the bellhousing. These forks wear fairly quickly
and you will need to replace the fork etc. every time you split the engine
and box for a clutch. If you get someone else to do this job make sure they
put all these parts in and a clutch as well if it needs it which it most
likely will, it should only take a couple of hours or so.

Thanks, had a look, and yes it has worn as you said, have gone out and
bought
all the bits you said, plus the casting with the pivot ball on it. I thought
the clutch
was on its last legs anyway, so that will be replaced also.

I think you can get a Delphi full clutch kit including the release bearing
for less than £80 and put some graphite grease on the pivot ball unless you
have something better, same in the spigot bush.
