i'm planning to change the clutch on my series 3 and wondered about lifting the engine out or droping the g/b...
which is the more straight forward way to go??
i,m thinking g/b as i did in my disco but having never done a series i thought it better to ask!!
thanks

Im guessing here...

But I would say that if you have a decent engine hoist on wheels etc , then its easier to remove floor panels etc and drop the gearbox to do the clutch..

if you have a ex army landy you can drop the box otherwise you either need to lift it out(with all that involves) or just slide it back outta the way.

thanks slob.. i think i slid back the box when i did the disco without too much trouble ,so this sounds the way to go....
thanks to everyone!!!

with an engine crane,it was easier for me to remove the gearbox out the passenger door.it is a bit tricky if there is an over drive fitted. You'll need to remove the seat box and floor panels.
I have dropped the gearbox backwards on another land rover I had but was so knacked after finishing the clutch job(didn't have an engine crane at the time just a mate to help).
As stated above you can't drop the gearbox as the cross member is weilded in unless you have a military chassis or has been modified.
Removing the seatbox will give you great access and allow you to inspect the chassis particualy those never seen before places at the same time (I re-coated mine with stonechip paint)
