Driving home from work tonight when there was a bang and my clutch pedal went to the floor. On looking under the bonnet I can see that the cylinder (slave cylinder?) on top of the gearbox has broken. There's a white plastic piece which looks as if it's popped out of the middle of the cylinder. The part isn't too expensive or hard to replace but I'm worried there might be an underlying problem which has caused the cylinder to break. Is it likely that there's a problem with the clutch or is it just that the cylinders aren't very good and are prone to breaking? It's an old banger and if it's likely that there's a major problem I'd most likely be better getting another car. Thanks in advance.
