6 months after getting my freelander 2008 2L the clutch went after only 45.000 miles. it cost £800 to replace but 6 months later it went again, we managed to get it replaced once more, although they tried to blame it on bad driving even though it had only done 4.000 miles However 6 months on its going again after only 3,000 miles; ive been assured the whole clutch was replaced. Im now fighting to get it replaced again but am getting the run around.
what do i need to know, what parts do i need to ensure have been replaced? How much should it usually cost to replace the clutch.
is this a common problem or we just very unlucky/

When you say the clutch has gone, can you describe what you actually mean by that.

Its hard to know if you mean its burnt out , dragging , not clearing, hydraulic failure or what to be honest.

There is no known issue with FL2 clutches to my knowlege.

there was a problem with early fl2 clutches, many replaced under warranty, i think the garage is not doing there job if they have not cured it yet., did they fit a new flywheel with the clutch.

Not sue if this will make much sense but the first time the we were towing the caravan. There was a poor response when changing gears and seems to have no pull.we then could not get into gear. We were told it was the clutch and all parts (whatever they are) were assured had been change. 6 months later the clutch peddle was becoming more spongy and not responding till the peddle was was almost fully release. We were told the clutch was worn out and accused us of bad driving but it had only done 4.000 miles. 6 months on , one day i smelt that unmissable clutch burning smell while pottering around town. Since then the clutch peddle has again been very spongy and does not respond until the peddle is fully released. Sometimes the is also a growling noise as you pull away

I do remember there being issues with the flywheels. Excessive play in the dmf can cause problems, but i assume if you had 2 clutches in 4,000miles, then common sense tells the garage the clutch plate failure is a symptom and not the fault.

Although i have checked and there is no specific bulletin from Land Rover about clutch failures on FL2 that i can see.
