Hi. Bad news. Had same problem in August 2007. Clutch eventually went completely. Car had full lift from yorkshire to staffs. Still in bits now. So far had new slave and clutch plate kit, master cylinder and now awaiting new fly wheel. Been ripped off so far. Take it to a garage you can trust and get it sorted before it goes altogether. Sorry...

Could be play in the clutch bracket on the gearbox housing, mine broke a couple of weeks ago and i lost all the clutch fluid from the sealed unit, it just exploded,.
Before it went i had some trouble engaging gear its worth checking and if you have to replace it its only a couple of quid.
Hope this helps

MY FL PETROL 1.8 GS has a limp clutch can move it up and down with hand. loads of fluid leaked under car. been told master/slave cylinder replacement....

you reckon?

Hi Antndif

You don't say which model it is. I had a 2000 1.8 petrol that this happened to just as described until one day it went completely on a 3 lane roundabout (middle lane rush hour ) and wouldn't go into gear! I gota new complete master and slave (it comes as one part) same day from the LR Stealer for about £80 quid. It took about 30 mins to fit master is a quarter turn twist in the bulkhead and just pushes onto the pedal and the slave end is held by a plastic clip.

If I were you I'd change it soon or the wife will give you some proper ear ache :blabla: when it leaves her stuck somewhere!

Hope this helps

Tony
