Hi

Anybody any ideas about this one. Driving to work yesterday (x plate 1.8GS), pushed in clutch pedal whilst crawling in traffic. It was probarbly pressed for 10 seconds. When i released and pushed again there was no resistance. Couldn't select a gear. Within a few seconds working fine as if something had stuck. Its been fine since.

The clutch linkage is hydrolic. Check your clutch fluid level is correct. Its a container on the back wall of the engine bay that is right in front of the clutch pedal position. Also check there is no fluid escaping at this location or under that car.

Good luck.

That would be the slave cylinder bracket. Apparently prone to corroding/bending, or the crap plastic clip that holds the cylinder in said bracket. Easier to get to by removing air-box. I only know this 'cos my clutch is as heavy as f##k and I tried to free it off by hitting the fork with WD!

deffo sounds the master clutch slave cylinder. changed mine with same symptoms, no probs since.
change the slave bracket as well only 4 bolts and the plastic retaining clips ought to come with the replacement kit.
good luck

Well clutch been fine. 600 miles this week. Then coming home today on roundabout pushed pedal - it went straight to the bottom and wouldn't come back up. Luckily the lights were on green and I managed to get to a layby where i phoned for the cavalry! Looks like the seal on the master end but its the one piece thing. Are they easy to change?

yep easy to change, release pushrod from pedal and twist master cylinder clockwise out of bulkhead.
remove plastic clip securing slave cylinder and remove the whole assembly.

when you look at the new parts you'll see how straightforward it is.

Rang round for part today. Mine was an STC 000120 which has now been replaced with STC 000160 apparently. For some reason these were alot dearer than the ones up to 2000MY. Mines a 2000 X but 2001 GS Model. They quote me £117 ! I rang some more but nobody seemed to be able to get one for me. I ended up bartering with Main Stealer and got £20 quid off. Not bad discount but still a bit dear. Got home and got it fitted back on in 10 mins. Everything works o.k. An easy job on a FL? Whats the catch?
