Clutch not always engaging

Bit of a long shot as I have yet to spend much time on this vehicle, but I noticed whilst moving it around that sometimes/most of the time! The clutch pedal drops by half and wont engage, after a wiggle around and several attempts it goes to the floor and i can engage a gear. Now, it had a new clutch about 50 miles ago but has not been driven in over 12 months

Its a series 3 GB in a 2a coupled to a V8, to complicate things further

any words of wisdom? cant work out why it would jam half way through pedal stroke. bleed it through? hmmmm.

Check bolts on bell housing to make sure they are all there.......This happened on my series 3....the bolt ha fallen out of the bell housing and jammed behind the clutch.

I had that just before I bought it daft! when the brakes were jammed and it didnt move! Those seem ok now though. Just this clutch thing is a bit wierd. Si, did the bolts drop INTO the clutch? that does not sound very good, hope its not that. But i could imagine that it could be that because of how hard the clutch is

er... engage? no disengage, sorry, didnt think about it for long enough

It will travel half way down and then stop. but the other way is fine, it always returns up smoothly.

similar to sirus's idea, i've seen one of the springs come out of a clutch plate, that lead to some random spurious clutch action!! that was on a wee frog car though...

Im starting to think it may be linked to my brake problem. Will open another thread for that one! But as I only have 1 res. for both and 2 master cylinders side by side, I think the brakes are effecting the clutch or vice versa.

They are fine when you open the bleed nipples, it releases pressure. then 2-3 pumps on the brake pedal and you can feel the resistance. Changed the flexi hoses today as advised by a friend but it made no difference. Think the clutch worked better initially and also the brakes bound on rock hard when not touching the pedal, so maybe operating the clutch is effecting it? new post i think!

Is there any free play in the brake peddle before it starts working? If not, there should be! I thinkl the same applies to the clutch peddle.

I dunno. When i was moving in and out of the garage testing the brakes I think the clutch did engage every time until the brakes started to stick. Then they seem to stick more and more which can only be down to pressing the clutch (or something else maybe) as i never touched the brake pedal after that! Will look at the MC tomorrow and report back
