Drove home 30 miles last night almost impossible to change gear ! Clutch pedal had been sticking so I had to raise the pedal with my foot under it each time I changed gear. Then it got worse and I could barely force lever into gear. Looked at Haynes manual and I guess I need a new clutch cylinder assembly ? Any comments/tips gratefully received.

what have you td4 , petrol , or di ,if you have a petrol then you just need the one piece clutch slave and master cylinder but also check the plate that the slave sits on the often crack and then you will not get full pedal, check that first, the job is a pretty easy one , if it is petrol, first take the clip off the clutch pedal then the master cylinder give it a 45% turn to the right (or it might be slightly less than that ) then on the gear box end unclip the slave and that's it fitting is reverse .make sure the tube goes under the steering track arm . best of luck and hope this helps

Thanks teddywood1. It's petrol. Are you sure its the master/slave cylinder based on my experience - and yours ?

Cheers,

Frank

just check the bracket first it just may be that my wife had the exactly the same problem and it turned out to be a combination of bracket and slave cylinder

Make sure that the clutch release lever in the gearbox is free to move. Most hydraulic/bracket failures are because the release arm has seized ;)
