How much of a ball ache is a clutch change on a 1.8 facelift FL1? Is it doable on the drive without an engine lift?

Recently when the engine is warm is getting impossible to select 1st and reverse is always grindy unless I select neutral first. Its totally fine when it's cold though which I find really odd. I've just changed GB oil and it's made zero difference.

I'm not scared of doing the job myself but I don't have a lift so it if its an engine out job I may have to put it in the garage.

Also, does anyone have a link for the upgraded clutch arm? I can only find one on eBay which I'll get if I have to but I expected a few more.

Cheers in advance for the help.

I did it without an engine lift, used a couple of ratchet straps on a plank of wood over the bonnet, to support the gearbox. The gearbox is heavy.

Cool, just got to order all the bits now.

Hopefully it sorts the problems, really don't fancy doing the job twice if it turns out to be the gearbox rather than clutch.

After all my efforts It turned out to be the clutch pedal on mine, but good experience doing the clutch, I think later models don’t suffer from the pedal issue. My advice is to Move the ird though, it's not that difficult and makes getting the gearbox out and back in a lot easier, doesn’t need taking out, just disconnecting and sliding away. Some people say it can be done with the ird in place, I tried but ended up moving it anyway.

Sounds like the clutch release lever is binding to me. I'd sort that out, before pulling the gearbox off.;)
