Cross shaft broke on mine because somebody fitted over size pins (not me) new shaft £169 and on back order at the time so it got welded up, been fine since (he said touching wood!).

OK chaps. Thanks for that.

Spiral pins sound likely culprit. Also, like the idea of something a little more robust as it looks a total bugger of a job and I don't want this to happen again! I'll have a look in RAVE and have a think!

Had a closer look at this in RAVE. What a smegging nightmare! 1) I have no four-poster. 2) I have no transmission jack. 3) I have none of the special tools. In short, I think this is beyond my tinkering with a set of Halfrauds spanners!

This looks expensive and no mistake.

there are no special tools needed. just remember to leave the bellhousing on the engine when removing the gearbox then remove the bellhousing afterwards , if you dont think its possible to drop down the box you could always remove the engine, not much time difference between either jobs

Thanks for the support. Good idea on hiring the jack. Main issue is my drive isn't flat and the surface is like the Giant's Causeway. Feeling a bit worn down by the constant tinkering.

First things first. Get the heating working downstairs before the winter starts!
