clutch/gearbox ones gone bang!!!

don't know if i've got a clutch or gearbox problem .cant start engine in neutral but can with rear wheels off floor,but then cant select a gear just lots of crunching.help please.

Sorry cant make it as Crusty is putting her tires up for the winter and getting a new coat (of paint).

Anyway back to the original question

Check your clutch is not stuck and check that the detent springs are nice and free to move.

Gearbox-sounds like mine-but fixed now-yeay, Q

Its got to be gearbox, as engine would start in neutral with or without clutch disengagement. It could either be a selector prob and you can check this by selecting neutral in transfer box and seeing if you can move between gears you should hear changes in rotational speed .
It could be failed bearing in rear of primary input pinion. locking primary shaft to input. Not good news HTSH
