Now that my new gearbox is in place, the plastic clip that holds the piston rod to the clutch fork has decided to come off. Does anyone reckon the clip is necessary, or is it just there really to hold the rod in place when the cylinder is removed, and the tension from the clutch pressure plate keeps the rod in place when its all together?

I just don't want to have to remove the whole smegging thing again for the sake of a clip. On the other hand, a loose rod inside my bell housing doesn't sound great either...

Well it's not ideal. If you're brave you could just try driving it. I think the push rod is too far into the slave to actually come out and rattle round the bell housing.....but it's not my vehicle.

There's no way I would drive mine knowing that clip was out but maybe I'm just a big girl.
