clutch change

Hi landiies, ok I am having to replace the clutch friction plate on my 2002 TD4. It has the Getrag gearbox. can anyone tell me if the ird has to be taken off as well? or can I just split the g/box and pull it off by lowering the left side? I don't see why this cannot be the case.

Haven't done the td4 one yet but with l series I took it off apart from the hoses and had it loose behind the engine. You can slide it off the gearbox then but not compleatly remove it.
As I said I don't know about td4. Might be different

so I don't need to drop the exhaust downpipe I should just be able to pull the box off. cool thanks guy's

I left the IRD completely in situ when I did my dads K series

From what I've read most people split them on the td4........there's a fair few write ups on it if you use the search box.

I will try to do a search, thanks. it does look like it will split without taking the ird out too. If that's the case I am leaving the driveshaft in the box too as that also looks like it does not need to be split from the box.

That's mine came off

wow finally after much waiting and scratching of heads I have my freelander back with a working clutch. I changed the complete clutch friction plate, pressure plate, concentric slave & master only to find I had good pressure on the pedal but it would not allow the selection of the cogs. I bled and bled it, my friendly mechanic bled & bled it almost getting there at 1 point only to find after a while he had not then just b4 we had lost heart and thoughts of scrapping her came to mind I asked him to just have a look at y the pedal was not level with the brake pedal. Urika, the clutch pedal somehow was bent and after whipping it off and a big bar later all the gears select and everything seems ok, just failed the mot today on a binding rear brake so ordered up some spares and will fit when they arrive. thank god its done
