When I'm braking theres a loud clunk from the N/S/F. Thought it was something in the door pocket at first but removed everything. It doesn;t do it when going over rough ground. Its getting worse. Any ideas?

have you taken off the wheel and checked all nuts and bolts ,callipers ,dampers shocks, wishbone and dare I say it,drive shaft.
No doubt MAD HAT MAN will try to reassure you that its only a cracked chassis or subframe...He must know his stuff ,he has well over 35 thousand posts.
Check to find whats loose and tell us what you find.

I get it quite a lot on mine, checked it all over and concluded it's the brake pads moving in their calipers, when the weathers warmer, I'll strip them down and use copaslip where they rest in the caliper.

not to say yours is this, but might be worth a look.

Just remembered i had a small clunk, and it turned out to be over greasing of the tube which the bolts move through the caliper. It was causing a vacuum stoping the caliper returning to the rest position, and therefore wearing one pad, and allowing the pad to move upon breaking. A quick clean and new pads solved the problem:)

Do you need to remove the hub to remove the lower front wishbone? Rave says that you can replace the bushes without removing the hub but then says you have to remove the hub to remove the wishbone. Sounds a bit fishy.

Just in case, does anybody know the size of the hub nut? Haven't got the car with me today and need to order up a socket.

If its original hubnut,IM SURE ...just going out to check think its a 32...yes it is.I personally would.1.take off the wheel. 2.open the 21mm nut on the wish bone ball joint. 3.undo the rear bolts of the wishbone,no need to remove the hub,but you might want to support its weight. Its bin a while since I had to remove mine.

This is an edit.To remove the hub nut, I use my shortest extension bar from my 1/2 inch Britool socket set.All the extender bars have a 19 or 21 hex nut on the ratchet end.Using my x wheel brace and a substantial tube I can loosen any hub nut.The last time I did it I jacked up the wheel I needed to remove, just a bit to take some of the weight. Then loosened the wheel nuts just a bit, removed the small green badge from the wheel...Fitted short ext bar to wheel brace ,(oh and tap out the chisel nick in the hub nut with a nail punch or a 4"nail,) ,then 32mm socket, loosened nut,(jut a bit),jacker up remove wheel nuts, then the wheel.Next open 21mm ball joint nut with an open spanner..................and so on.

Don't think anyone's mentioned maybe a broken front coil spring and the rough edges scraping together.

Further to Wulf's spot on advice, if you can't get the ball pin nut to slacken with an open ender, you can undo the two strut pinch bolts above the hub and let it come towards you. That exposes the nut to get a socket or ring spanner on. Once you're that far the hub is as good as off (all bar the brake caliper) so even if you have to do that it's not too daunting.

Thanks for all your help guys! Solved problem as follows...

Removed wheel and noticed that brake disk was warn badly on one side. Removed caliper and both guide pins were well seized. Bought new disks and pads and cleaned and greased guide pins.

Reassembled and no clunk! Must have been caliper moving under braking due to siezed guide pins.
