I've noticed a 'clunk', from the back of the truck, occasionally when taking up the drive on my 2.5 N/A.

Any ideas as to what it is?

only noticable going at low speeds, always happens giving a bit a gas after a speed bump!

Thanks

my n/a makes a clunk noise to when starting off . by reading some other posts on a similer note this seems to be ok . still I greased all the uj joints and prop shafts ,checked diffs and gear/ transfer boxs oil levels, treid pulling pushing the props and u/js as well , it still makes the noise so have learned to live with it.

ah think the rangie folk are taking over!!!!
its all 'mine does that' in here these days

could be yer uj's, yer diff or gubbed bushes etc

do a search and yule find a wealth of info

p.s mine dunt do that

Check the prop for play, if it moves about from side to side on the UJ a fair bit then it would indicate movement in the UJ's.

They should feel fairly solid.

My 90 td5 does that too.

I've checked everything over, just play in diffs, transmission etc. being taken up as you move off. Happens to me too at only low speeds and starting off. I've learnt to live with it, not got any worse.

snot normal and dey dunt all do dat.
start at the wheels , check drive members , half shafts , diff flange , uj's , prop splines , tranny box flange and if that don't sort it there might be play in your gearbox main shaft , pop the inspection plate off your tranny box and check the input gear for wear.

drive members don't cost much , props are a little more and input gears a bit more than that but a small amount of play in all three will cause the symptoms you describe. i had **** loads of drive train shunt in mine and i replaced all three of the above and it sorted most of it , my gearbox main shaft is badly worn so only a new gearbox will sort that.

ear, fellow pastie muncher.
my 200 TDi had the same problem - wern't nuffink ter do wiv driveline parts. it were the A frame ball joint knackered wot caused it.

good point.
put it out of gear , hand brake on and rock it back and forth , watch the a frame ball joint as you do so. i think this is how you check it.

Out of gear? Wunt it just roll around while yer pushing it?

In gear with no hand brake methinks ;)
