I have a defender 110 when i put it in full lock there is an intermitant clunk ? nothing in a straight line tried to jack it up and spun the wheels but herd and felt nothing so its only when under pressure but cant tell where its coming from ? any suggestions please

I thought it might be cv but it sounds like its coming from the ferther under like the diff ? when you stand by the wheels and listen

Could be a uj on the way out, only noticable under load.Jack up one front wheel, grab front propshaft and push pull and turn looking for play in any trunion, also look for a dry rusty joint that may be seized although this usualy shows up as vibration at speed.

Hi Mate,

I had this problem not so long ago,
everyone said it was CV Joints, Turned out it was my transfer box :(, i drained the oil outta the box and had handfulls of metal and even whole teeth.

Not saying its definatly your problem! but it was for me .....

Hi again right so far i stripped out down to the cv joint and the only damage i found was the brass washer had shattered which in turn had caused some minor damage from the play but going to replace the washer and seals and see how it goes and let you know fingers crossed lol

hi again turned out clunking on opposite side cv, so we replaced cv and hub flange that was damaged put back together, no noise any more but i noticed at low speed on full lock seems to want shunt one wheel forward a few inchs like when in diff lock??? could it be time to change transfer box or diff??? any ideas or guide links more than welcome then i might get to the bottom of all the damage cuased (most frustrated)many thanks keep you updated.

finaly got to the bottom of it all ended up being the transfer box, linkige was fine was something inside the box, so i bit the bullet got a 2nd hand box fitted £300 as it all got a bit much ahhhhh! welcome to old defenders a? oh well all done and fine except for a sqeeky belt now so i will try the penny trick, thanks for all the help...... time to get muddy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D
