Clonk when changing direction (D2)

My D2 has taken to making a slight clunk from the rear when changing from one direction directly to another (roundabouts etc) its only little noise but its taken to wandering a bit on the road too, ive heard about an ACE arm on the rear axle that could be the cause, can anyone shed some more light on this please??

I have this too on a D2 auto, but think the slight clunk is at the front, I have searched on here but nothing really came up.

check the stabliser links . the peice from the bar to the axle the baljoint is usualy the cause you may need to remove it to see the excess play . i had te same prob but mine had run slack the joint was good i just put a washer between the nut and it was fine .

It's a Watts linkage on the Disco 2, nuts and bolts and bushes mainly, it's what locates the axle to the chassis.

I've got a spare on out on the floor, I don't think that there is anything super-difficult about changing the bushes etc.

If the pictures load in sequence, the first is an overall view, then the centre and lastly one end.

The centre and outer links are rubber bushes, the two either side of the centre are swivelling steel bushes with gaiters on to keep muck out.

it could be the antiroll bar bushes where they mount to the chassis the whats linkage antiroll bar link ball joints or the short arm on the antirool bar where the ace actuator conects to it this is not repairable
knocking on the front can be caused buy the antirool bar bushes the antiroll bar link balljoints or the bottom shock absorber bushes

I would go with martin on that one, i had the same problem on my disco 2 and it turned out to be the anti-roll bar bushes. Cant do any harm to change them any ways cheap fix.

Being nearly 11years old now and had quite a hard life I can pretty much definately say theyll need changing without even looking! how much are they roughly?

If it's a single clonk when you change direction, repeated when you go to the opposite direction, then I'd bet on the anti-roll bar bushes.

If you slide under from front and get a firm grip on the anti-roll bar you can try to move it fore/aft. Any movement at bushes, they need replacing. They are a very simple job to replace (one bolt each. no need to jack up or anything).

You should be able to buy from usual places for about £1.50 +VAT each, so no real risk involved!

One caution: there are two different sizes. Disco with ACE has bigger anti-roll bar, and therefore bigger bush. Paddocks still only list the smaller one (part RBX101690) although they did get me the bigger ones (part RBX101181) when I found that they did not fit mine. Some suppliers do list both . . . . .
