Disco 200tdi my heater still gets warm but it won't blow, the clock works but doesn't light up and the fag lighter doesn't work:mad: it all happened at the same time I think, so reckon it's connected. I've checked all the fuses and looked for any loose dodgy wiring and can't find anything.

Any ideas appreciated.

If the fuse was hot but not blown you might be drawing current just below the rating of the fuse or could be a dodgy fuse. Replace the fuse and if it blows straight away you could have a live to earth short circuit.

The fusable links are on the drivers side of the engine bay just behind the battery.

Cheers Daz, I'll let you know how I get on.

Tried a couple of new fuses and they're the same, getting hot but not blowing I'm sure they would if I left it on for a while.

I haven't got a fusebox under the bonnet anywhere, didn't think I had, in the space behind the battery are 2 relays with fuses in them (both ok) nowt else.

Just noticed its a 200tdi !
Does sound like 1 of the services covered by the fuse is drawing current as its getting hot. Don't be tempted to replace the fuse with 1 of a higher rating, always replace with a fuse of the same rating.
You just need to find which service is drawing the current.
I'd probably start with the cig lighter socket as the insulation in the socket may have broken down.

Daz

Pull the connections off the back of the cig lighter socket and see if the fuse cools down - if so the socket is the problem.

Daz
just tried that and no it didn't cool down but the fag lighter now works and after pulling the clock out and wiping the contacts that now works so maybe they weren't all the same problem:confused:

As it now stands, the heater doesn't blow and the fuse gets hot when you turn it on.

Had a good day so far, fixed my passenger door, fitted my bonnet pins, fixed my drivers window........was hoping to have a clean sweep and fix everything I set out to fix:)

Looks like the problem is in the fan motor for your heater then mate.
Switch the fan completely off (to 0 position) and see if the fuse cools down.
If it does there will be an internal fault in your heater blower and i would leave the fan off til you sort the problem out.

that's pretty much the same conclusion I'd come too. The fuse does cool if the fan is turned off so I figured it must just be the heater blower. Oh well summat else to fix another day.

Thanks for all your help Daz, have a good 'un :5bcheers2:

Check the heater switch first, found hiding under the center console.

Check date of vehicle...http://www.roverparts.com/Instructions/Disco_I_Heater Control_AWR7154G.cfm

The 200TDi heater blower removal is a dash out job.

Did one about 5 years ago, took all weekend but then we weren't going to rush it. All in 1 days 'work'.

Get your assistant to make a note of the connectors, build a 'cheat sheet'. Take photos of wiring routes and cable clamp locations, cos the dash won't go back fully otherwise.

Use masking tape to mark pairs of joints, so you know A - A etc.

It's scary to look at when it's out....spaghetti junction

When it goes back in and the car starts first time.....
thats a brill feeling. :D

Your looking at getting one of these...
