Hi all

This rattle/clink is driving me mad!

I have a noise coming from the underneath rear passenger side on my 1996 manual 300tdi discovery

I've searched on lz already and tried some suggestions.

It sounds like milk bottles jangling together, it only happens when driving on uneven roads or over potholes and speed humps.
It isn't speed dependent, it doesn't matter if the disco is in any gear or even in neutral it's still there.
Today I've changed the diff oil (as I don't know the last time it was done)
Altered the mud flap bracket to be clear of exhaust
Greased all the uj's and checked for play, there isn't any.
Checked the transfer box dust shield (all solid and in place)

Had a good look round but nothing is standing out!

Any help would be much appreciated

Cheers tony

Springs, shocks , plus bushs, rear raduis arm bushs , rear A frame bushs and joint. check all these for play. they maybe fine , but worth a check.

Thanks for the ideas

Springs and shocks are only 2 months old.

A frame bushes? How do I check this?

Cheers

Tony

if you go under it, you will see a Aframe just behind rear axle, which connects to the rear axle via a joint.. if you rock the car from behind ,with handbrake on you will see if there is any play in the joint, it maybe buggered or it may tighten up... also while you rock it , look at rear arms which connect to axle, see if they also have play. also go on busters how to guide on here, you will see , a frame bushs , you will get an idea what your looking at.

Hi there have you had a look at brake pads try pressing pedal when driving over rough ground mine does it at the rear hope this helps cheers.

Have you thought about dangling a small child/elderly relative by the ankle out of the back door to look and listen for said milk bottles whilst you drive down the road at great speed?

i had the same sounding noise and turned out to be an old side step mount, like yours only mad a noise on rough road

Found the noise!!

Brake pads loose in calipers, just like ssdisco suggested!

Gratch, Arran enjoyed his experience dangling outside the moving disco, didn't help one bit with finding the noise though!!

Cheers for all the help once again!!
