Good afternoon

its now getting cold but the climate control just won't work and keeps blowing cold air! Sometimes I get the textbook symbol but sometimes ibdont.
When it was a bit warmer one side did blow warmand the other cold but this would change from side to side. Not bothered about air con but would just like some heat as its quite cold in the mornings. Any advice???

heated seats not working well definitely not drivers side but I can live with that for the moment.

Thanks in advance

Hiten

p.s sorryif this has been covered before

The heated seat elements melt on pretty much all P38s, so that's less of a fault more an inevitability - don't think it would show on diagnostics.
Diagnostics will show you any faults with the heating/AC systems and crucially the blend and distribution motors, which is where your fault could lie.
When you say blowing cold, is it a constant temperature of cold or just the ambient temperature?
Does it work any better if you don't have it on auto? If so it could just be the temperature sensor (which is behind the little grill beneath the clock) has got bunged up and giving false readings.
Check the driver's carpets for any leaking as this could indicate (sorry!) failed heater matrix o rings (although that shouldn't impede AC)
When my heating failed it was because there was a slight leak in the radiator, so check that and that there is no loss of coolant.
If both the AC and heating does not work, I would assume either temperature sensor (which probably shows up on diagnostics but not sure), motors or possibly a faulty HEVAC unit. It seems unlikely that part of the cooling system AND AC systems would simultaneously break..

PS. If you want to repair the heated seats - it looks like a right pain but there is a good guide on RangeRovers.net :)

Many thanks for your prompt detailed description.

I've not tried the auto button as yet so I'll give that a go on the way home. As for the air temperature it does feel pretty cold! I can hear some sort of a water flowing sound from the passenger side and there have been a fee drops leaking from the underneath of thr glove box come to think of it! There doesnt seem to be any leaks of coolant from the rad as nothing on the drive or car park at work.

I think I may pass on the heated seats haha.

Really appreciateyour help :)

Water from the passenger side is almost certainly a blocked AC evaporator drain (basically they weren't very well designed, there is a kink in the pipe, and they get blocked and then leak :p ) If so, you need to reach through the smallish hole to the right of the bottom of the glove box and squeeze the rubber tube - you should get an armful of water and rubbish... I don't think there are any ECUs down there fortunately.. The same can happen on the drivers side - clean water = AC , yucky water = heater matrix o ring issue

I presume you run with the AC theoretically on? You could try pressing "AC off" and see if that delivers anything new.

It is possible to get a coolant leak where it falls onto something hot and immediately evaporates (or worse head gasket failure but this doesn't sound like that) - check the expansion tank level to be sure :)

Oh lovely! This gets better and better. Well i actually always run with AC off (light illuminated) so this doesnt make a difference.

Coolant wise, she does drink a little bit of coolant so it could be a case of a leak somewhere.

It's worth running with AC on some of the time, as it keeps the oil circulating in the system so nothing dries up. It's also a good idea in very wet conditions as (assuming the drains aren't blocked :p ) as it dried out the air and protects the computers from corrosion.

Which engine are you? The engine gurus will be better suited to helping with a coolant leak than I will :)

Yeah I have heard running the AC is good for the car.

I can't remember the exact name of the engine but it's the one that looks like bananas haha.

I'd just like to keep warm when driving to and from work

Blend motor problem, do a search it's a very common problem.
If you can hear water sloshing around and you don't run aircon, suspect the pollen filter covers.
Check the carpet in the drivers footwell, if it's damp check if it's coolant, if it's coolant, most likely it will be O rings. Fix it before the damp kills the BECM. Use the aircon to dry the interior, it helps the electronics survive.

Well do you fill it with petrol or diesel? :p

Sorry. I did forget to state which engine the car is. It is the 4.6 V8 and yes its the thor engine I think
I shall do a search on blend motor after work and see where that leads to! It was quite a cold journey to work I should add
