classic upper tailgate popping open..

up to acouple of weeks ago its been fine,but now n/s pops open..tried to adjust the latch up,so that it takes more "pressing" on tailgate hatch button to open, but that just made it worse!infact both sides popped open!!

so adjusted other way, in that one just touches the button and it opens,back to just n/s popping open...

hmmm..

catches are good nick,1 year old.posts they "catch" around are good..

whats going on?is there a correct way to adjust?

oh,tailgate is ali..but before you say thats why popping open,remember was fine up to recently,and on my other rangie that has ali tailgate too is fine,never popped open..

do the catches need shiming out?

had the same problem with my new ally tailgate. I cured it by adjusting the catch rod. The locks had become to tight and the slight extra strain was enough to pop the catch.

Test before you close the gate though as a pain to undo if it goes wrong lol.
