any help appreciated, as going on holiday next week and need to get this fixed...
just had an allisport intercooler fitted and its begun to overheat, flushed the system and changed the thermostat...doesn't do it in traffic, but after about 15 mins cruising at 80ish on motorway, using the heater brings back to normal but if i start to press on the temp gauge begins to rise again.

Very concerned as the trip to france will be long and we'll be fully loaded.

Was perfect but the intercooler installation.

Whats next to look at ?

Regards
Rick

Had same problem on mine (tdi200) 70-80 temp up 60-70 temp down rad fins had rotted on mine but it can be rad constriction internal or external my rad was chocked with gasket sealent bits inside aswell, check yours isn't clogged with mud etc...let us know what you find...good luck feller.:)

thanks for the replies, the intercooler is behind the radiator and given that water flows through the radiator (from the hosepipe) top to bottom and runs very clear I'd assume it wasn't clogged ?

How much does it overheat? does it actually get into the red and boil up?

In my experience of turbo diesels, it is normal for them to run hotter when you are pushing them hard, and I would say 80 in a Classic is pushing it!

Presumably the extra heat is generated from the turbo. Of course I might be completely wrong, but every turbo diesel I owned has had a wandering temp needle depending on if you are just cruising or "pushing it", as opposed to petrol engines that seem to stick at exactly the same point whatever condition.

Prior to the new intercooler the guage, never moved once it got to the middle. I think I'm gonna go with a new radiator as a first step with 174K on the clock and no invoices for a replacement one in the past does that seem like a sound move (apart from selling the damn thing and buying a 2003 Discovery ?)
Cheers
