Tell me about it mate, was starting to fear the worst!

Was the off side that was damaged. Cv was full of water also.

one of mine was when I got it, filled it with the swivel grease!

did the half shaft break becuase your diff was locked?

**** I hope not, I hope the shift is the only thing that's broken. I'm assuming the boys will have been able to check the diff was moving when they took the half shaft off

its the centre diff/viscous coupling I am on about.

would be surprised if you half shaft snapped just from driving it on to a ramp- it must have been wound up somehow I think

youi cant loose drive with broken cv/halfshaft on front axle unless something has broken loosing drive to rear

viscous coupling would give drive on rear axle unless transfer box out put shaft splines had gone easy enough to check and fix with box in situ or rear half shaft

if only running on front axle probably for a while ,extra strain would be put on it apart from age etc, ive come across a few like that ,i had a customer in france who reckoned hed need a diff soon so ordered one before it went as can take a week to get stuff over there cheapish but he said he wasnt to a day or two as would drive on other axle except other diff had gone previously so had to wait till two got there

Hopefully get the replacement half shaft on monday. My mate had one, but a non abs so says he can switch it over, hopefully get it fitted Monday and then see what else is broke then.

Was the half shaft that caused the problem, that'd the recon unit fitted and it's currently away in for MOT.

Should be on the road later today.

Many thanks for the advice again

Thanks Mike, got it back on site, drives great and a bit quicker now as the calipers aren't sticking.

Time for electronics now :(

Hope your diff is an easy fix mate!

So do I! I still need to fix my heated seat and get the N/S front foglight and bonnet light working - fun fun!

if front half shaft made you loose all drive ,you need to check rear axle and output shaft in transferbox because one must be broken ,one axle with bust shaft wont cause vehicle to loose drive ,

James is spot on here, something is not working correctly with your rear axle, rear prop or your transfer box, as a single broken halfshaft should not lose all drive, you need to look further. Try jacking up one rear wheel only and then try to spin it, if you can you have a broken rear halfshaft (or mashed diff) as well. It's only a ten minute job to pull out rear halfshafts to check whether they are broken or not. If you do find a problem with your rear axle too, then you probably have a seized viscous coupling to add to your list! Sorry.

tis what I said, but if its siezed shut how could he loose drive?

there must also be a reason it broke just driving it on to a ramp?

its the seizing v/c that usually causes one or other thing to break in first place. with all drive on one axle a weak point is often found in the same way series 3s snap rear half shafts

When the viscous coupling seizes, then no difference in rotational velocity is permitted between the front and reap propshafts, this is what causes wind up when cornering, or turning etc. Eventually, the wind up will cause something to break, when the first thing breaks, other than a nasty noise nothing else may be noticeable, the car will still drive, but the key point is that it is now only driving on one axle.
This puts that remaining axle under a lot of strain. When it is stressed sufficiently, something else can break, you now have no drive at all. I believe that this is what has happened here.

Hi guys, sorry not posted in a while, list my phone during a messy night.

RR is driving spot on, not had a chance of good snow yet to check to 4wd works fine but it's selecting no problem
