Clanking thud.....Bang

Hey all, I have noticed a terrible clanking thud under my S3, checked mountings on g/box, and it looks ok, to me going to pressure clean it all this morning and check again. It only occurs with body roll, so I am thinking Shackles on springs, however, I do drive a 130 with a custom flatbed on it, and the flat bed works loose every now and again and clanks and thuds and bangs on a very rocky road called the SANI PASS, I am wondering if this might be the problem on my S111? Any advice on where to look for clanks and thuds on the old girl?

Check for broken suspension bushes and loose U bolt nuts, wheel bearings and front swivel pins. Could it be a broken shock absorber?

SANI PASS: I've been there! I cycled through Lesotho and down the Sani Pass 8 or 9 years ago. It's a beatiful place. I stayed a night in the Sani Top Chalet and I recall that the owner was into Land-Rovers. That's not you by any chance is it?

Not the owner, but the manager for a long time, and yes very much a landrover man, and as you can see, I am now going down the ladder to series models, as they are a whole heap o fun. Got my eye on an s1 .....hmmmmm just to get the missus around to my way of thinking, maybe I shall have to buy her a new horse to sweeten the pot.

The clanking seems to come from amidship, I have ordered new bushes for the springs, as a precaution, and the U bolts seem to rock solid, but perhaps renew them to as a precautionary measure.

Id check the U bolts for tightness and for broken spring leafs , also what it could be is the spring shackle shifting from side to side in the chassis bush and the spring itself shifting in the shackle .
( my old SIIa used to do this , used to love watching peoples faces when it did - " What the FOOK was that ...... " ) .

hahahaha, that was me missus' first reaction, but now she understands its just a landy. In all seriousness, I am having all the springs re-tentioned, and putting in new bushes all round, and if there is any more of the same clanking thud, well, it is a landy after all.
