My rear silencer has developed a great big hole where the piece of metal should be that is routed through the mounting rubber.

I've picked up a new rear silencer and decided to have a go swapping it over. There's a clamp bolt that seems to hold the silencer to the intermediate exhaust section, that fell apart as soon as nut on one side got more than a couple of turns. Does anyone know what the part number or better still have a link for one that will fit a 2003 TD4 exhaust system?

In any case the rear silencer doesn't seem to want to budge off the intermediate section which at the moment isn't a bad thing. Think it'll need some heat or worse still cutting so looks like a job for my local garage.

you will probably have to cut it off as if it has been on for a while it will be stuck as for the clamp go to a exhaust place and get a clamp off them they may even fit it for a small fee

The original clamp are spot welded on, just get a normal exhaust clamp that will work fine, if you take the back section off the rubbers normally you can work the box up and down to get it off. If not then like the above post just cut it off

Thanks all.

The clamp was rusted to buggery so fell apart as soon as the bolt started moving, guess being spot welded didn't help.

Will let the garage have a go with some heat first to see if it will budge, if not which looking at the state of it is unlikely, then they can cut it. The silencer looks pretty rusted and aged, the intermediate section thankfully looks in far better condition.
