I thinks mine have had it very corroded, I was wondering if anyone has had them re chromed, or isn't it worth it. Has anyone tried any ways of refurbing them.

I looked into it recently. You can get them rechromed and polished for about £70 the pair. Problem is you then would need to get the holes for the bearings and railko machined out.
Best to look for some decent second hand ones, not sure about the quality of aftermarket ones though

if it just surface rust then just rub it down an fill the housing with one shot grease but if they are pitted badly start looking for new ones.

Years ago a mate of mine used to rub them down and then varnish them where the seal runs, don't know if it would work cos I never tried it. Personaly if it's ****ing oil out I would be fitting new ones

Thanks for replies, I suppose its a case of is the corrosion going to damage the seals or new seals on a refurb. Re chroming doesn't seem worth it I like the idea of varnishing and could perhaps see that working.

yardo - what did you do in the end, i have same problem but thinking of going down the new route but expensive and there dont seem to be any used one for sale without rest of axle....

Remove any rust lumps and fill pits with epoxy resin, run seal over ball to smooth out before resin sets.Use the 5 min stuff, lasted a couple of years on my old series 2.
