Right I have been looking through the forum at all the gearbox threads and I have now decided to take the plunge to get a recon box from Ashcroft Transmission. I know a lot of you have used them so that's good enough for me.

I was reading this thread the other day:

http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/gearbox-removal-rear-main-replacement-242670.html

and it made me feel like I can do this work over the christmas period while the weather isn't too bad and iv got a bit of time off. It was a brilliant post btw, nice and clear, hopefully won't be breaking my thumb doing the job tho!!!

I guess all I am looking for is a list of parts to do the job so that I can get it all ordered and here ready.

Got my gearbox serial no. this morning so is there anything I am missing from the list below:

Gearbox!!!
Clutch Kit (Cover, release bearing and plate)
Oil (about 3 litres worth)
Reverse Switch (Mine only lights when pushing stick to the right)
Rave Manual :)

Can't afford the extra £250 for a new flywheel as well so fingers cross it doesn't need replacing.

Is there anything else that is worth doing at the same time??

Thanks in advance

Hi mate I've got problems with my gearbox on my disco 2 ! I am still driving her though ! It's a bitch to get 2nd then after 5mins it's perfect ! Then after about 15miles it just all goes tight ! Can you give any advice pls regards Chris

Rear crank oil seal? Not sure on td5s but check for any engine seals you can get at with the flywheel off

if the fly wheel is just within tolerance then it really is a truly false economy not to change it.
Fingers crossed its ok

After having a good look around I have decided to add a few extras to the list.

Getting a new spigot bush to put in as mine shreeks whenever the engine is cold and I use the clutch. Any idea how to fit these??

A new slave cylinder as reading the forums many people have said that it may fail when replacing the clutch.

Going for standard clutch kit (not ****part tho).

As for your 2nd gear problems chrissyrabbit, I agree with Lyndon, give it an oil change with the correct oil (mtf 94) and this will probably cure the problem, it did with my 2nd gear last year.

Changed oil yesterday mtf94 transformed gearbox all good now thanks .... I did change oil before Christmas but not mtf94 ! It was another brand but I was told it would do ! I was **** !
