Elwood..... ignore Gwippa.... I've told him before he's a w*****r, makes a change all his buddies didn't jump to his defence ! You asked a reasonable question, which sadly seems to trigger his seniority complex.

On the contrary Grippa's reply was forthright and too the point. And for clarification it is illegal to use a lapbelt to restrain a child in a side facing seat. And as all other child restraints are designed for forwards facing seats. It is actually illegal to restain a child which is traveling on a side facing seat.

Hello red ! Fancy you jumping to his defence.... again.... yawn... afterall.... your answer was useful ( I mean it.. it was.. ish ) but again tinted with the same superior attitude as your mate.... what is the point of setting up a website to assist other landrover owners and then just put them down when they ask a question ? We all bow down to your superior knowledge ( patronising enough ? ) and really think as a senior member the sun glints from your rear.... ( is that ? ).... and don't give me all that guff about the **** taking ethic of the site.... thats only because some of you like to exercise your complex... oh and Elwood... they're your kids mate.... do what YOU think is best for them... I have a feeling they'll survive... your obviously concerned enough to ask in the first place... more than a lot of parents in this world mate !.... Rant over... feel better now !

Not one to bear a grudge then Strap on?

Look, you asked a question, had a pointless strop about a lighthearted response and now won't let it go.

FFS chap, life's too short! ;)

Nooooo.... I just like windin you up !!!!!!!! :p Anyway.... off to the post office to pick up one of those parcels they try to deliver in the 15 minutes you were out.... I'm sure the b*****d postman waits till I leave !!!!!!!!

Well my small contribution to this discussion has a footnote! The new inertia reels saved anyone from hitting anything when my series was forced to mount a Calibra at 50mph! My only challenge now is how one would fit three point seat belts in a safari! I had fitted the centre reel at the base of the bulkhead behind the seats in my SWB and it held perfectly not that I recommend crash testing!!

sorry to tell you but you are not allowed to carry children in the back of your land rover if there are no seat belts fitted. Have just check and I will now have to fit belts to my Swb safari. Anybody done this?

Just a suggestion for anyone who feels a slow series in an accident isnt too much too worry about....

try running flat out a a brick wall, with luck you will get up to 15mph ish depending on your fitness, dont put your hands up although you would probably just break your wrists if you did and see how it feels... then multiply your pain and think about it...

People have died falling awkwardly after slipping over walking

Im not gonna tell anyone we need to wrap up in cotton wool and give in to the health and safety lunatics but to suggest your safe because your vehicle isnt driven quickly is naive in the very least.... if you dont agree please try the brick wall confirmation test :) LOL

Cheers Steve

Get hold of the front upper seat belt mounts from either a 90 van (best) or the upper mounts from the second row seats in a 110 station wagon, both will easily mount at the rear in a S3 station wagon for use with forward facing seats.. if sideways seats then 3 points are pointless

Cheers Steve

For the middle seat I mounted the inertia reel at the base of the bulkhead behind the front seats. In the accident it worked a treat, there are burn marks where it contacted the strengthening bar but it didn't distort and a 17 year old female was completely restrained as I was and my other front passenger. The other inertia reels I mounted on the top fixings at either end of the same bar with perfect results. If I didn't have a leg in plaster I'd take photos to illustrate the point!

I did a quick google search to find the answer to the same question and this thread came up....

Oh my god what a bunch of miserable patronising morons some of you really are!

  • Just because we used to drive round with 12 people squeezed into a mini, it doesn't make it alright now! Seatbelts are there for a reason!
  • Having said that, if you choose not to use them or choose to drive a classic car with no belts then that's your choice and your right
  • Answers like 'try a google search' are a waste of everyones time. How do you think I found this thread moron? You come across as one of those old pub bores who just likes the sound of his own voice
  • 'you're an arsehole plan (sic) and simple' possibly the least constructive post. And you let this cretin become a senior member?! He can't even spell plain!!!
I don't mean to tar you all with the same brush - some people actually gave some positive answers.

Don't bother replying to me - I won't be coming back to read your replies - I'll be looking for a group to join where people are helpful, friendly and constructive.
