Chequerplate (again)

Was it just me who thought he meant the outside? Now I realise you meant the inside, the inside of my door is stainless. Looks ok to me.

Nah, he has to have been talking about the outside, otherwise the wheel mount wouldn't have come into the equation, unless he has it mounted on the inside door card???!!!

The rear door of my TD5 is bubbling up (you know what I mean) and I was wondering if anybody has fitted chequerplate to cover the entire door (well, as far up as the window anyway).

Any comments or advice please? What about refitting spare wheel mounts afterwards - any snags? (I have Searched the forum but couldn't find what I was looking for.)

Ta!

Yep, he must be on about the outside, might have to have a think about it actually, my rear door has seen better days, don't think it would look too bad with BLACK CP on it:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:;):p

I loved the look of my chequered plate when it was all nice and shiny, the bonnet and wings still are, but the sides, sills and back door are not so bright now. Once I've given it a good wash I'll decide if I don't like it dull and tarnished and if that was the case I'd probably paint it. As my Landy is white, I'd probably go for that first and if I didn't like it, change it to black as a contrast.

But, to be honest, I don't think it'll look that bad with the duller grey-ish tarnish look, after all, it's a landy and bright shiny ones just don't look right, though this is just in my eyes, many people like their's bright and shiny like a new pin. I prefer the "lived in" look.

Thanks for the helpful comments, folks.

The CP solution would be considerably cheaper than a door replacement and, IMHO, easier than rubbing down and respraying the existing mess (only to have to do it again and again, probably). I am now clearer about the effects on the spare wheel carrier (all manageable) and now appreciate that only some of you will like the appearance I end up with.

Again, thanks all. There's a whole lot of invaluable input here and I'm glad I joined! :)

Cheers!

PS. I'll post a pic when I get around to doing it sometime soon.
