After the "Land Rover Specialist" couldn't find my problem with my wobble ive decided to check the car myself this weekend.

Can anyone tell me how I can check that my IRD wasnt damaged by the VCU being seized? Ive read a few places about noises and grinding but im getting none of them and was wondering what to look for in the IRD Fluid?

Cheers

(Dont know if the wobble is from the IRD but worth checking it all while its in the air)

Hi,

Ill try and make the story short lol

I was getting a wobble on the front end when accelerating at around 40 - 50mph, took it to a local "Land Rover Specialist" who gave me a report saying it was the VCU seized.

Ive since took the props off and although its much smoother im still getting a very bad wobble when putting my foot down, its also now creating a thud when going around islands (When turning right but fine when left).

But all of the above is only when im accelerating and goes smooth when you dip the clutch or let off the gas.

Its more annoying that I cant figure / others cant figure out what the problem is then actually knowing and it being alot of money.

Thanks for any help though...

Jesus man,

Youre taking a risk posting without consulting the ''SEARCH'' menu or asking for permission to post at all.

FFS think before you post. This is a forum for people already in the know, dont ever ever dare to ask a normal question.

But back on topic you say you have removed the props and its smoother but still wobbles.

Have the front driveshafts been checked for wear/play and are the engine mounts alright.

very hard ta pin these faults on a four drive , but here is my tuppence worf, if lr is correct [vcu seized ] this is the worse case as it can either seize ,not work at all [mondo mode] or work correct, if as yer say, you have disconnected prop ,then vcu is redundant and loading taken orft rear fdu [remember when driving fdu is still spinning] so if you've still got wobble at front then it takes you to the front ,the ird drives a percentage front and rear ,so its ird gear box clutch plate [fooked] cv,s at front. . . .ok know that aint helpin you ,but this will , if and only if , you've dissconect rear prop, chock up front of motor leaving wheels in air . . .start motor put it in all gears and listen underneath ,turn wheels each way and if you get your odd noise push in clutch to see if it go's. . . .this way you might pin it ,but unfortunately sometime this type of problem happens only under load conditions, oh yes like the others sed check tyres furst . . . .best oh luck earthling :) :) :)

while you have it jacked up like ming suggests, check the front drive shafts for wobble while the are spinning, had the same symptoms on mine and the front shafts were out of balance and needed replacement
