Yes well great... In case you'd not noticed I'd asked a few times for advice where I could get one from but just got the usual "Do a search FFS" and "Let me Google that for you", dispite mentioning I'd already done both, and then one helpful link to a Rope and Marine services... Although I have F.A. experience of winches/landies so no idea how long I'd need/thickness/if they'd know what sort of hook I'd need or the rating...

Basically, I asked for help, got none, so just rang a shop who actually know what I need, and they sold it to me.

Could have saved a few quid possibly but I don't really care cos at least what I need is on its way to me now.

did you get a test cert or conformity doc with the rope? if you did then it should have the rope construction on it (usually 6x19 fc or similar) it will also have the diameter and length on there. keep these details somewhere safe and the next time you need a rope try a company like these...

John Teire & Co

you can use engine oil to lubricate a rope but it's not recommended due to detergents in the oils breaking down the core of the rope, rocol, tigris and other companies do wire rope lubricants in aerosols that are made specifically to soak into the core and rereleases the lube back onto the strands as the wire is used,it should be lubed every 6 months but shorter intervals if you use it regular. use a piece of plastic or viscreen wrapped round the drum to protect the rope from road crap.

Got a little green tag saying it was tested buy someone...

It is WR8-38T Wire Rope, 38 M (8mm) 4B1 apparently.

keep those details safe, it will save ya some cash next rope if you shop around. winch ropes arn't actually tested as such as the only real way of testing rope is to destruction so it gets batch tested in production;)
