I am planning on buying a land rover series 2 (not 2a) and am wondering if you guys out there could give me abit of a lecture perhaps and points for a checklist of things i need to check / look out for. Im planning to look at a 1959 model if that helps.

What makes you want a 2 rather than a 2A? Do you even know what's different?

True, but tiou will often find what minor differences there are have been replaced by newer parts (one of the delights of Land Rovers) so make sure you are getting what you think you are getting.

So a 2 is worth more than a 2a if they are both of the same condition for example? Could you give me a list of pointers to look out for when i view the landy perhaps? Thanks

The diesels had a 2 litre rather than a 2 1/4, but most will have been updated by now. the very early petrols had the Series One engine, they are rare.
The other differences are fairly minor, shape of the front apron, way headlights are fitted, the way the fresh air flaps work, the fuel pipes and so on. In true Land Rover styler most of these didn't change at exactly the same point they became 2As.
I wouldn't expect any of these to have a significant effect on the value unless it's a perfect concourse spec vehicle.

What is the difference with the fresh air flaps? Thanks

They have screw fittings and not, spot welded, on the inside it should have round knobs so when you turn them the vent opens, the newer ones have sliding vent openers (SIII type ones)

Which means if you drive them at speed(?) the flaps will automatically wind themselves closed!
