I like the idea of a tracker. my rangey is parked on the street as dont have a drive. Im lucky in a way as it a quiet culdisac and i live at the top. we all know whos cars who, and noone comes up this end for no reason, so "strangers" get noticed. I got a tracker in my works van (mainly used to check up on us imo). It a big unit, amost size carton 200 fags. Or the firm we work for use a live data tracker system linked into their hard wire satnav system

Sounds like your company is using the old minor planet units. Easily compromised though!

When you think about the cost of a tracking system and compare it to the hassle and grief if your motor gets stolen then I think it is worthwhile... but then I do have a vested interest.:D

The thing that puts me off is the cost of the monitoring. Do you do a system that is only activated when reported stolen? Think that would persuade more people to have them fitted. I am seriously considering it, But got to admit lpg is slightly higher up my list.

I am unsure what you mean by monitoring. Unlike many systems, you basic tracking system will report to your mobile phone. It can be used for live vehicle tracking via a website and that facility usually carries a very small monthly fee. You are not paying for a monitoring company though. If you want the unit to only report when stolen then it can be configured to do just that... the choices regarding how the equipment is configured are many and varied and any competent company will work with you to give you what service you want.

sorry may be thick or tired but whys it illegal to turn the engine off
Switching the engine off while the vehicle is moving may compromise the abaility of the driver to control the vehicle by limiting power steering, affecting servo-assisted brakes and so on. Should the vehicle be involved in an accident as a result of the driver being compromised then the liability for the accident does not lie with the driver it lies with you, the person who disabled the engine.

Hence: While it is legal to have the switch fitted; it often results in a ****load of trouble if it is used in the real world.:(

Be honest the only thing i know about trackers is what i found out from the guy who fitted the nasty little spy to my van. They constantly monitored, (aparantly) and the firm can get printouts of where, when and anything else they want. so what kind price looking at for one that gats activated, for want of a testicle term, when reported stolen?
