Cheap veggie oil

My philosophy is just do what works for you. I think most of the legislation is aimed at commercial use but it does catch the private user if they so wish. If the poxy governments were not so greedy peeps would not be finding alternative ways of fueling their motors. The very first diesel engine ran on veggie oil so thats good enough for me. In fact the TD5 is a very flexible engine in terms of what it will run on. It seems that any oil of the correct viscosity will do. Mine runs really well on ATF/diesel mix and I have access to occassional supplies of used ATF from my brother's plastics injection moulding machines.

Shifty, have you had any problems with the TD5 fuel pump using more viscous fuels and what about rubber seals in the fuel system?

never had a problem in over five years with the pump or any o rings on my TD5s. I dont use pure veggie but mix it with diesel 75/25 summertime and 50/50 wintertime so viscosity is not a problem. As the TD5 runs it warms the fuel in the tank which also helps with viscosity. I measured the fuel temp in my tank after a 50 mile motorway run at 39c with a laser thermometer. I did try on 100% veggie but it took longer than I was happy with cranking to start when cold. A fuel preheater may have helped but I'm a tight old bar steward.

so ,, would it be ok to run a 300tdi on new clean veg oil and diesel mix without the arse dropping out of the pump seals ? and does using clean veg oil still mean id have to change the filter ? confused .com

yes & yes

How about heating oil I've heard someone running their BMW on neat heating oil and they have done for years summer and winter.

Don't do it!! apart from it being illegal and running the risk of having your car crushed, kerosene has no lubricating properties so it will bugger up your engine quite quickly.

The heating oilI used to use years ago in my Diesels was just red diesel so where the f has Kerosene come from?

It is refined more, higher standards for heating oil less pollution Remember in the 60's jets would leave a heavy black trail on take offs, now the are cleaner, no exhaust smoke to speak of. Same thing

never heard of that, heating oil has always been kerosene aka paraffin as long as I've known. How many years ago are you talking about?

Well thats Gas then
What are you talking about:confused:

This began because Whitto999 asked if he could run his car on heating OIL not gas. He was referring to Kerosene. It is used as fuel in domestic central heating systems all over.
