I used to use BlackCircles and had good service and keen prices. I would get them delivered to home then get them fitted locally. Did the same 6 months ago, savings on tyres were less, got them delivered to home then found all the local tyre places have closed ranks to charge £25 per wheel to fit and balance which killed any saving I'd made.
I had a similar experience with my 4 Nexen Rodian's £25 to fit ea. so a total bill of £100 per corner. They offered me YOKOHAMA's on the last Rangie @ £163 ea. Inc. fitting.

My local tyre fitters did charge me few £ to balance my M/Ts but everyone was shaking their head saying it can’t be done so I offered to pay them just to try. They did good job balancing, fitting wheels etc all copper greased up nicely too. I also had a new oil filter while I was there and didn’t come to £50 for the lot.
Used lot of balancing weights

I wouldn't buy tires online again. I did once and was lucky as they were AT and only available online.

We used Black Circles a while ago.... they sent the tyres to a local agent .... I took them wheels to fit the tyres on to, but they were adamant they needed my car keys to fit the tyres .... o_O they got stroppy and, IIRC, refused to fit them whilst I waited - so I had to go back later that day to collect the wheels.:mad::mad:

I won't use them again.

We've used BigTyres since - no problems ( www.bigtyres.co.uk ) ( no affiliation etc. ....)
Sounds like the problem lies with the local fitter, they might have even the same if you’d bought direct from them.

+1
That's strange, in the past eight months I've bought two sets of tyres on-line (the first from BC) specified two different fitting centres & had no problems with either.
Perhaps our local outlets aren't stroppy, though one of them (Formula one) did advise me that the front discs on our daily driver were totally worn out … the local garage I've used for years begged to differ & I know which of the two opinions I trust

I think in our area the tyre places have got together and decided to push the price of fitting up to cut off any savings from on-line sales.

I don't really understand this, when I've bought tyres on-line the price has been 'all in' All I've had to do is specify my choice of a local fitment centre from a list & chose a date/time.
Is there something I'm missing here

You can normally specify a fully fitted price, or a delivered price, at the time of ordering. ;)

In the past I've bought from stockists so the tyres are delivered to my door, this used to work out a lot cheaper and there were several local independent places that would fit and balance at a reasonable price. The two I used have both packed up and the market has changed, its either larger companies with fixed high fitting charges or mobile tyre fitters working out of a van. For me its now marginal on buying just the tyres.

As a share, I've been ordering all my tyres from Black Circles for the past 11 years or so. Delivered, fitted, new valves and balanced at my preferred tyre fitting centre, as they know how not to bugger up expensive wheels/wheel paint, BC are nearly always the most competitively priced. Sometimes a few £'s more but the knowledge/comfort factor that they deliver the right tyres at the right time to the right fitting centre is near priceless. In this day of 'everything must be bought at lowest cost' BC provide a cracking service...this over six cars and soon a full set of five tyres for the Land Rover...said quietly, "on the new set of original Wolf 16" steels that I'm picking up tomorrow" ;)
